Youve heard the names, but do you know which diamond is right for you?
It can be a bit confusing, so were here to break down the main differences between moissanites, cubic zirconia and mined diamonds. There are so many differences, everything from cost to their makeup.
Moissanite
The moissanite vs. diamond is a common question we get at Two Birch! To simply put it, moissanite is a gemstone from the stars. Thats right, its from space! The crystals are composed of silicon carbide and are named after the French scientist who discovered the unique stone from a meteorite in Arizona. Nowadays, moissanite is mostly lab-created since its so rare. While the illusion is extremely similar to a real diamond, its composition is quite different. Like diamonds, these stones are incredibly hard and durable, scoring a 9-9.5 on the Mohs scale.
The sparkle is sometimes a bit more than diamonds!
Cubic Zirconia
Cubic zirconia jewelry can be found in almost every retail store for its affordability. At Two Birch, we call our cubic zirconia stones diamonear.
Cubic zirconia stones are made from a synthetic material to create the look of a real diamond. Cubic zirconia is inherently flawless, and an 8 on the Mohs scale. In these lab-created stones, you wont need to worry about seeing any hints of yellow. It even weighs more than a diamond! Cubic zirconia are a very close replication and a great alternative to a diamond ring!
If you want a stone that shines, a diamond is the best bet. Diamonear captures light differently and wont give off that true shine.
